I was born and raised in Bloomington. I have many great friends but no family, everyone in my family moved away for their jobs. When I was a new mom I worked, for the first 2 years before I quit to stay home. When I first decided to stay home, it was a little lonely. Most of the moms already had groups, playdates, and activities the had set up. I was trying to jump into already established schedules. We joined the Children’s Corner family last year, Lilian right away made a lot of great friends. We felt included in so much and through volunteering in the classroom I got to know the students and through them the parents. December of last year when I sat down to listen to the Christmas songs sung by the kids, I had a feeling of belonging. Not only had Lilian made some great friends but I was also starting to make friends as well. When you don’t have a family nearby you build your own. Today I still talk to and visit with several of the moms, both with and without our kids. They invite me to mom Christmas parties, kids birthday parties, and to spend the holidays with them. This Christmas I will be thankful for the family Children’s corner has helped me forge as I get together with the family I have made and spend the holidays with them. Family is what you make it and Children’s Corner has help to give me a wonderful family Happy Holidays to Friends and Family both near and far, both born and made! Cheers! by Rose Smith. Rose was our Facilities Chair last year and is our current Membership Chair
