Dear Children’s Corner Members,
On behalf of the board, I would like to welcome all new and returning families to Children’s Corner Cooperative Nursery School for what I am certain is going to be a fantastic year. By choosing CCCNS you, as a parent, have made a wonderful and meaningful commitment to your child. Your involvement both in and outside of the classroom may take a little extra time, but I am sure you will find that the rewards far out way the effort! Children’s Corner provides an atmosphere where meaningful and productive relationships can develop between parent and teacher. It is a unique place where the parents have the opportunity for real input into their child’s preschool experience. Each spring, the members of CCCNS elect a board of parents. Any parent whose child attends CCCNS is eligible to run for a board position. The board meets monthly to review policies, plan functions, evaluate the school’s budget, and ensure things run smoothly throughout the year. Each of the seven board members has a specific area that they are responsible for overseeing. We ask that all CCCNS parents sign-up for a committee under the area that interests you the most. Please also let us know if there is something you feel like you can bring to the school that does not fit into one of the below categories; we have been very fortunate in years past to have parents offer their knowledge and expertise on a variety of topics as well as providing in kind donations and services. Sign-up sheets will be available during your orientation and the August membership meeting.

The board is striving to keep the cooperative spirit of the school alive and ask that all parents take some time to think about how your time and talents can best help Children’s Corner to continue to thrive. We will have many opportunities throughout the year for members to get a chance to meet and get to know one another. The cooperative spirit of the school creates an environment where parents can build lasting and meaningful friendships and support networks with one another. Our first membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 31st at 7:00pm. We ask that you meet in your child’s classroom to meet the other parents in that class. We will then meet downstairs in the Fairview United Methodist Church dining room to answer any questions you may have and to meet with the committee group you have signed up for. Following the meeting refreshments will be served.
As you and your child prepare for school to begin please keep in mind that CCCNS will provide all school supplies needed throughout the year. The teachers ask that every child bring a school bag and a water bottle each day. The bag will be used to bring home their many wonderful projects. Please keep in mind that zippers, buckles and snaps make it difficult for the children to get things in and out of their bags; large canvas bags with no closures are recommended. Backpacks are acceptable but please refrain from the ones with wheels. We have found that they do not hang well on the hooks provided for each child.
Please find the following as attachments:
Parent-Child Information Sheet This form will help your child’s teacher learn a little about him or her before school begins, as well as your contact information and personal interest. Please fill out and email back to bloomingtoncccns@gmail.com.
CCCNS Parent-School Agreement This is your copy of the agreement to keep for your records. Please review as your child’s teacher will have you sign a copy at orientation for the school records.
Participation Request Form The cornerstone of our cooperative program is classroom participation. It is truly what makes CCCNS a unique experience that is rewarding for both parent and child. If you haven’t already sent this in, please do so by August 8th.
I look forward to seeing you all at our first membership meeting on August 31st. Please feel free to contact me at any point during the summer or throughout the year with any questions or concerns you may have regarding any aspect of the program. I encourage all parents to communicate with the board and teachers with any comments, suggestions or ideas you may have that will help to enhance both the parent’s and child’s experience at Children’s Corner. Sincerely, DeLeigh Talbott President, CCCNS Board 2011-12
